What Are the Traits of Optimal Health?

A little while back I took a detoxification series of classes. During one session we were asked the question: “Is optimal health simply the absence of disease?” Then we were asked: “What are the traits of optimal health?”:

  • Feeling of energy – consistent throughout the day.
  • Youthful and age-defying physical appearance.
  • Sleep that comes easily and lasts until morning.
  • Feeling refreshed upon awakening – no need for alarm.
  • Digestion is comfortable.
  • Energy is present after meals.
  • Bowel movements occur comfortably (1 to 3x/day).
  • Urination takes place every few hours – light color
  • Skin is clear and glowing/vibrant.
  • Hair has a glossiness and shine.
  • Illness is rare and departs quickly.
  • Mind is clear and alert.
  • A wide range of activities can be enjoyed.
  • Feeling of being challenged without being overwhelmed.
  • Body is toned and flexible.
  • Comfortable weight is maintained.
  • Eyes are shiny and clear.
  • Have feelings of gratitude.
  • Obstacles and setbacks are seen as opportunities for growth.
  • Emotions are stable.
  • Sexual energy is balanced.
  • Relationships are supportive, meaningful, and fulfilling.
  • Have a sense of purpose in life.
  • Inner peace is attained and enjoyed.

Wow! That’s quite a list. Does anyone really have or experience all of these traits?! I wanted to share this list because I think we all tend to set the bar so low that we lose sight of what it means to have true health and balance in our lives. Health shouldn’t just mean the absence of disease. Let’s raise our expectations. Imagine what kind of world we’d live in if everyone aimed to achieve optimal health!
