Homemade Kombucha

I made my first batch of homemade kombucha yesterday. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this drink, kombucha is essentially sweetened tea that’s been fermented by a colony of bacteria and yeast. Doesn’t sound too appealing, I know. But it is fantastic. The fermentation process makes it fizzy – and healthy! Kombucha has been around for more than 2,000 years. In ancient China it was called the Immortal Health Elixir. See below for some of the amazing health benefits of kombucha.

Because my family’s kombucha habit was getting quite expensive, I decided to try and brew it at home. It’s really easy. The fermentation process takes about 2 weeks. Once the tea was done fermenting, I had fun experimenting with different flavors. If you’re interested in home brewing some kombucha, I’d be happy to tell you more about it.

Kombucha Health Benefit #1 — Detoxification

Detoxification produces a healthy liver and aids in cancer prevention. One of kombucha’s greatest health benefits is its ability to detox the body. It is rich in many of the enzymes and bacterial acids your body produces and/or uses to detox your system, thus reducing your pancreatic load and easing the burden on your liver.

Kombucha Health Benefit #2 — Joint Care

Kombucha contains glucosamines, a strong preventive and treatment for all forms of arthritis. Glucosamines increase synovial hyaluronic acid production. Hyaluronic acid helps to preserve cartilage structure and prevent arthritic pain

Kombucha Health Benefit #3 — Aids Digestion and Gut Health

Because it’s naturally fermented with a living colony of bacteria and yeast, Kombucha is a probiotic beverage. This has a myriad of benefits such as improved digestion, fighting candida (harmful yeast) overgrowth, mental clarity, and mood stability.

Kombucha Health Benefit #4 — Immune Boosting

Kombucha is high in antioxidants, which helps to boost your immune system and energy levels.
